MCC Lecture Series: Building Bridges Across Racial Divides @ Muskegon Community College - Room 1300

The Muskegon Community College Lecture Series opens the 2019-20 academic year on Thursday, Oct. 3, when Larry Feldman, M.D., and Sandy Feldman, M.S.W., will discuss the interesting and formative findings in their recently published book Building Bridges Across the Racial Divide.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, takes place at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Center Room 1300 on the MCC main campus.

The Feldmans are diversity educators and consultants, adjunct instructors at Lake Michigan College, and practicing psychotherapists. They have been honored for their work in race relations by Andrews University, Lake Michigan College, United Way, the Race Relations Council, the Council for World Class Communities, and the League of Women Voters.

Building Bridges Across the Racial Divide offers a hopeful view of how well-constructed diversity initiatives can combat entrenched racial prejudice and segregation in American life. The book provides an extensive review of research on methods for reducing stereotypes and prejudice. The authors describe multiple initiatives designed to reduce the negative effects of racial separation by bringing together children, teens, and adults from different racial groups to share a variety of positive experiences.

“The Feldman’s tireless work in racial reconciliation has fostered healing and hope for many years in southwest Michigan,” said Andy Wible, MCC philosophy instructor and coordinator of the MCC Lecture Series. ” Come hear Larry and Sandy share their lifelong experiences of struggle and hope overcoming the racial divide, and consider how their experiences and research might apply to bridging the gap in Muskegon.”
